From their foundation in 1981 to their latest recordings – the full-length album “Necropolítica” (2022) and the tribute album “Isentön Päunokű” (2023) – Ratos de Porão has continuously evolved while keeping their essence intact throughout various phases.

In the 1980s alone, Ratos de Porão explored diverse styles, starting with straightforward American-influenced hardcore heard in the compilation “SUB” (1983), followed by their distinctive D-Beat style showcased in “Crucificados Pelo Sistema” (1984), and the dark and aggressive metal punk sound of “Descanse em Paz” (1986). However, it was their crossover-thrash trilogy of albums released in the late ’80s and early ’90s – “Cada Dia Mais Sujo e Agressivo” (1987), “Brasil” (1989), and “Anarkophobia” (1990) – that solidified the band’s identity. During this period, they merged thrash metal precision, hardcore intensity, and lyrics that vividly depicted Brazilian reality.

“Necropolítica” (2022) bears such striking similarities to their classic album “Brasil” (1989) that some might perceive it as a continuation or “Brasil Pt. 2”. This album showcases Ratos de Porão’s signature crossover-thrash sound and delivers a powerful social and political critique, drawing inspiration from contemporary events. It serves as a musical photograph of a historical moment, experienced through João Gordo’s indistinguishable vocals, Jão’s iconic guitar riffs, Juninho’s heavy bass lines, and Boka’s precise drumming.

This lineup has remained unchanged since 2003, making it the band’s longest-standing formation, and many consider them to be at their peak on stage.

While Ratos de Porão has extensively toured their home country of Brazil, as well as Latin America, North America, Europe, and Asia, they have never performed in Ireland during their 42 years of existence.

However, that will change on Thursday, September 7th, as the band will play at The Sound House in Dublin. This show will be the only stop in Ireland for their European tour, which also happens to be the first one since the pandemic hit.
